COVID-19:  Member Updates

Governer Cooper's Executive Order No. 142:

As of midnight, July 29, 2020 Governor Cooper’s Executive Order 142 prohibiting electric utilities from charging late fees and disconnecting members for nonpayment has expired. We understand the impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on many households and businesses in our community may last for months to come, and we remain committed to helping those who need it. As your electric cooperative, we care about our members and want to do all we can to help make the transition back to normal operating procedures as easy as possible.

While the electric bills incurred during the time of the executive order will have to be paid back, we want our members to know we will work with them and provide any assistance that we can.  We are offering payment plans to all members with an outstanding past due balance.

Rutherford EMC has always been dedicated to helping members manage their energy use and this effort is more important now than ever as many continue to feel the impacts of the pandemic. We continually encourage members to take advantage of our free and easy-to-use energy resources to help manage their energy use and discover ways to lower their energy bills.

As another resource, we have compiled a list of local Energy Assistance Agencies that may be able to provide assistance with paying your electric bills. This list can be found on our website under the Residential tab.  As always, we remain committed to serving you, the member.

Also, drive-thrus and drop boxes are open at all six of our office locations, and our customer service reps will remain available via phone to assist with payments, new service applications, and any other requests.
