Wholesale Power Cost Adjustment Implemented
As your electric cooperative, Rutherford EMC remains focused on providing our members with the lowest cost electricity possible, even in this rising cost environment. As 2023 progresses, we continue to see the impacts of the unprecedented increase in fuel costs to generate electricity. We will continue our steadfast efforts to keep your electric bill as low as possible. However, these extreme increases are making it necessary to pass on some of the additional costs to our members.
In response to the increase in fuel costs related to power generation, a monthly Wholesale Power Cost Adjustment (WPCA) of $8.50 per 1,000 kWh will be implemented beginning with the February bills. This is a direct pass-through charge to recover the increased charges from our wholesale power provider. There is no markup from Rutherford EMC; these funds go directly to our power provider.
This increase is projected to last throughout 2023, but could fluctuate depending on the power costs charged by our wholesale power provider. The WPCA could be reduced, eliminated, or increased based upon whether wholesale power generation costs rise above or fall below current cost projections.
Rutherford EMC is committed to providing its members with the most reliable electricity at the most affordable price. We will make every effort to keep you informed of energy industry impacts and how they are affecting your electric cooperative throughout the year.
